Narrative Assessment - 4 August 2015 - Literacy

Learner: Sivkheng         Learning Coach: Miriam Kamsteeg             Date: 4 August 2015
Learning Area: Literacy - Reading
Learning Observed
Today Sivkheng read with me “Be Careful, Matthew”. Sivkheng was able to read this fluently without pointing to the words. She is starting to sound out the “tricky” words and look for clues as to how to sound out the word. She is looking at the picture and the beginning of some words (said Granny for Grandma and Grandpa for Grandad).
Evidence of learning

Sivkheng has only been reading this level books for just over a week. She is showing that she is reading many basic sight words and is starting to sound out words. I wonder if she is practising her reading at home?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Sivkheng is developing her Capabilities in Reading. She is able to make Connections between the pictures and the words on the page. Sivkheng is checking that the sentence she reads makes sense (Thinking). She is reading many words (Using Language, Symbols and Texts).
Next Learning Steps
  • Continue to explicitly teach sounding out words
  • Explicitly teach checking that the correct word has been said, even if it makes sense
  • Share learning with home.
