We are learning to make connections with the past and with the stories important to our community. This week we have been learning about the legend of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp. After we listened to, discussed and acted out parts of this story, we used chalk to create a picture of our own genie. Svikheng was able to talk about her picture and said “This is the lamp and this is the genie”. Her drawing showed a genie coming out of the lamp and she smudged the chalk to represent the smoke.

Key Competencies/Vision Principles

Svikheng demonstrates her capabilities in sharing her knowledge about a myth and legend by using the new vocabulary of ‘lamp’ and genie’ (Using Language, Symbols and Text). Svikheng also demonstrates her capabilities in art as she depicts a genie in a creative and clear way using the technique of smudging to create a desired effect (Thinking).
